Next week, we’ll be taking Gahanna to Nashville. We (the Gahanna Ohio Convention & Visitors Bureau) will be packing up a little slice of Ohio’s Herb Capital and attending the American Bus Association’s annual Marketplace for the first time ever.
The event draws more than 3,500 tour operators, suppliers and exhibitors to network and do business. With more than 140,000 pre-scheduled appointments and 800 pre-qualified operators, Marketplace offers a year’s worth of sales meetings in one week.
Why would Gahanna CVB travel all the way to Nashville to attend this event? GCVB is a Destination Marketing Organization (DMO). We are funded by a portion of the hotel bed tax. Our mission is (in a nutshell) to market Gahanna, Ohio as a great destination for visitors … meetings, sports events, weddings, reunions, family travelers, couples, business travelers and, yes, motor coach groups.
And visitors equate to economic impact for Gahanna. They spend money in our shops, restaurants and hotels. They fill their gas tanks at our gas stations. They attend our signature events (like the Creekside Blues and Jazz Festival) and tournaments. They visit our attractions.
ABA estimates that a one-day motor coach generates somewhere in the neighborhood of $5,000+ to a destination; add in an overnight stay and that number jumps to $11,000+. And those dollars go back into the city … building parks and infrastructure, creating programs and more. Essentially, visitors help make Gahanna a better city.
What will we be “selling?” Ahhh … that’s where the fun part comes in. We’ve pulled together some of the “best of Gahanna” and created some experiences that showcase the city’s unique flavor. And as Ohio’s Herb Capital … we have LOTS of flavor! We’re tapping into some national travel trends by luring folks with our culinary gems, health and wellness classes/businesses, gardening/outdoor appeal and more. You can get an idea of these experiences HERE.
And these experiences aren’t just for tour groups … they are ideal for company team building outings, reunion groups, garden clubs and others. To learn more, contact Gahanna CVB at 614/418-9114 or check out http://www.visitgahanna.com/
Until then, we’ll be practicing our “Ya’lls!”
