Two former network engineers have teamed up to become the new owners of Gahanna’s beloved Signatures, a popular sports bar and grill now known as Signatures Mill Stone Tavern. So how are Tim Latorre and Corey Pearce putting their combined “signature” on this popular local spot? Will they be keeping the famous pizza and Ray’s Rueben? We caught up with Tim to get the skinny.
What made you want to buy Signatures? We looked at several different bars and taverns around Columbus, but really liked Signatures … the nice bar, the family environment and the great location. We liked that it has been a family owned restaurant/sports bar since it opened in 1991. The Gahanna Parks and Recreation Foundation’s History Mural (a new addition on the south exterior of the building) was a big selling point for us. We wanted to play off the local history both inside and outside of the restaurant. We’ll be featuring old photos and other items.
What other changes can customers expect? We’ve painted the interior. We’re building a new stage, featuring live entertainment on Wednesday and Friday evenings and “Ladies 80s” Thursday nights. We’re renovating the restrooms. But the great food hasn’t changed—and the staff is the same. And we’re open on Sundays now.
What are Signatures signature menu items? Our pizza is amazing. We’re still making it the same way it was made here 18 years ago, in the stone pizza oven. And we just added a gluten-free pizza crust option. Our wings won the Best Hot Wings at QFM96 Wingzing, so we have “award-winning” wings! Ray’s Rueben, the Garlic Shrooms appetizer, the Hot Hot Pastrami and the Monte Kristin are all really popular too. We have 28 drafts featuring many IPA’s, as well as a big selection of domestic, craft and import beers.
What are YOUR favorite menu items? I like Ray’s Rueben and the wings. My family loves the Texas burgers.
What do you think makes Signatures a favorite spot for locals? Everyone knows the location and it’s easy to walk to. Then there is the great food, music and beer. So, I guess it’s kind of like “Cheers!”
What’s one thing that most people don’t know about Signatures? The Signatures building was home to Wilson’s Meat Market during the 1940s-1960s. There are still metal conveyors downstairs. We’ve come across other remnants such as meat hooks and an old wood cooler door. We’re planning to display some of these items in the restaurant.
What makes Gahanna a good place for your business? Gahanna is a great community. The city embraces its heritage through organizations like the Olde Gahanna Community Partnership. We appreciate those types of partnerships. It would be easy to go into a place and make it all about yourself, but it’s not about us—it’s about Gahanna.”
