Tour a One-of-a-Kind Nationally Acclaimed Home: The Universal Design Living Laboratory (Gahanna Ohio)


For a short time, Central Ohio visitors and residents can tour the Universal Design Living Laboratory (UDLL) at 6141 Clark State Road in Gahanna. This national demonstration home and garden is open for public tours every day through November 23, 2014 from 12 noon to 6 PM. The $10 admission goes toward raising funds for spinal cord injury research at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.


This high performance home is the highest rated universal design home in North America and has earned three national certifications. It also earned a gold rating on the National Green Building Standard. The spectacular Frank Lloyd Wright inspired Prairie style home is unlike any you’ve seen before. Clever design features and meticulous detailing make this home convenient, functional, peaceful and safe for everyone during every stage of life — regardless of age, size, or physical ability.

Included are the finest universal design features and benefits, in addition to energy and water conservation techniques. State-of-the-art advanced products make this home energy efficient. This home went beyond green to promote an economically, environmentally and socially sustainable lifestyle.

It provides comfort, independence and safety for people who have physical challenges as well as for those who would like to age in place gracefully. In addition to the audio tour, the tour guides are the homeowners (who reside in the UDLL) and are also the builders. As an added feature of the tour, they will be available to answer your questions and point out highlights. Guests will have full access to the home and exquisitely landscaped garden.
