Bob and Darlene Bailey are the owners of Gahanna’s new Amish Country Essentials shop, located at 121 Mill St. (Suite 122) in Creekside Plaza, and specializing in all natural and handmade skin care. We asked them about their new shop, unique products and how they chose Gahanna.
Q: When Did you open Amish Country Essentials?
A: We opened on March 16, 2016.
Q: What inspired you to open the store?
A: We have been using Amish Country Essentials skin care products for the past 11 years and it has made a remarkable difference in how our skin looks and feels. All the dry flaky skin that we had in the past disappeared when we began using these products. Over time we developed a close relationship with Shane and Tracy Cultice, the family that makes all of our products in Berlin, Ohio (Holmes County). They have a huge following here in Franklin County and over the holidays in 2015 they called and asked us if we would be interested in opening a store in the Columbus area as independent distributors. We jumped at the chance. We firmly believe that what you put on your body is every bit as important as what you put in your body, and it just doesn’t get any better than our all natural skin care products!
Q: What do you specialize in?
A: We specialize in all natural handmade soaps, lotions, salves, moisturizers, bath bombs, deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo, a full line of men’s shaving products, dog shampoo, baby skin care products and more.
Q: What sets your shop apart from others like it?
A: We really do have ALL natural products. There are no chemicals, no dyes, no additives in our products. All of our ingredients are ALL NATURAL and organic. Almost all of our “competitors” use the phrase all natural, but they add chemical dyes and stabilizers to their products for color, consistency and shelf life. When we say “all natural” we mean just that. What sets our shop apart is that it is family owned and run. We guarantee a quality experience with a personal touch to each and every customer. We even invite our customers to relax in our Amish made rockers next to the fireplace and have a cup of tea with us. (The rockers are also there for the men who are waiting for their ladies to look around and smell all of the amazing products!). In addition, we are a pet friendly store, so bring your best friend along with you!
Q: What kinds of things can visitors expect to find there?
A: Visitors will find a calm relaxing atmosphere with a knowledgeable sales staff. They also will notice that we are a part of the Gahanna Herbal Trail, which we are very proud of. Mostly, they will find what we believe to be the best skin care products made and sold in Ohio. We have great specials every month and a money back guarantee. We also have gift cards, baskets for Mom, baby shower baskets, Father’s Day baskets and wedding shower baskets (his and hers). We will also create made-to-order specials for you.
Q: What makes Gahanna a good place for your business?
A: Darlene and I have lived in Gahanna for over 11 years, and we love everything about it, especially the people! When we thought of opening our store we looked first at Creekside and then all over central Ohio, but we both knew that Creekside in Gahanna was the only place for us. We love the events that are sponsored here from the Paws on the plaza each month to the summer concert series, the Herb Day celebration, and especially the Creekside Blues and Jazz Festival! We are excited to be a part of the Gahanna business family!
Q: What’s one thing that most folks don’t know about Amish Country Essentials?
A: One thing about Amish Country Essentials that people may not know is the Cultice family, the family that makes all of the products, has been in the soap making business since 1762. Our “O Natural” soap bar and our chickweed salve are original recipes from 1762. When something isn’t broke, don’t try and fix it! After 9 generations the Cultice family knows a thing or two about skin care!
Q: What are your hours?
A: The shop is open Mon-Sat 11 am-8 pm and on Sunday 1- 5pm. However if it’s a really bad weather day outside call ahead, I might just close up and take Darlene to a movie. It’s one of the perks of small business ownership..lol!
